Iranian FIT Alumnus Awarded

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) of the State University of New York honored five of its exemplary graduate students in designing, including Iranian Asal Shakeri.

Shakeri will continue her cooperation with the university as advisor and jury member after receiving her MA degree, ISNA reported.

FIT is a State University of New York (SUNY) college of art, business, design, mass communication and technology connected to the fashion industry, with its urban campus in Manhattan.

Experienced in museum design, she was invited by the head of the Tehran Cinema Museum to design the ‘Children’s Cinema Museum’, expected to open in a year’s time. Her academic and professional workshops on museum designing are underway.  The initial design will be adapted to the new museum premises.

Pointing to the features of her design, Shakeri said: “Children like to touch everything to discover new things, so the design has a crucial role to create for them an inquisitive, amicable and warm atmosphere.” She said written information should be minimal, “because they will learn ‘indirectly’ about the history of children’s cinema.”

The museum should encourage kids to see children’s movies and get to know the characters. “Unfortunately few TV shows have been produced recently targeting children,” she rued, and hoped the museum will draw the attention of film makers and the relevant authorities to the importance of children’s cinema.
