Iranian theater director Mehdi Kushki will stage the play ‘Bleach’ at Richmond Hill Center for the Performing Arts (RHCPA) in Toronto on April 23.
Four famous theater and cinema actors Navid Mohammadzadeh, Mahnaz Afshar, Sahar Dowlatshahi and Leili Rashidi will play in the documentary theater (a genre that uses dramatic representation of societal forces through the use of pre-existing documentary material as the source of the script), Honaronline reported.
A long monologue, the play is based on a true crime story which deals with the real economic problems and other misadventures in the society. The monologue is by the four young performers who are among the top Iranian actors.
Mohammadzadeh won the best supporting actor award for ‘Life+1 Day’ at the 34th Fajr Film festival (FFF), in February; Dowlatshahi won the best supporting actress award for ‘The Ice Age’ at the 33rd FFF and Afshar won the best supporting actress award for ‘Sa’adat Abad’ at the 29th FFF. Leili Rashidi, daughter of the veteran actor Davood Rashidi, is a popular actor who has acted in many popular TV series, films and plays.
The play was among the winners of the 3rdMonoleev Independent Festival in Tehran, 2013, which is a specific event for monologue and monodrama plays. Pop singer, musician Xaniar Khosravi has made the music for the work.
Located in the heart of the historic downtown, the RHCPA is a major venue that brings Canadian and International performers on stage.
Tickets for the one-night performance in Toronto has been sold out. After returning home the group will stage the play in Tehran in June.
