Still life paintings by painter, sculptor, architect and writer Jahangir Shahdadi are on view at Art Gallery 14 in Tehran.
Titled ‘Still Nature’ (in Persian: Tabiat-e Saken), the exhibit shows a selection of still life paintings Shahdadi created over 30 years.
On display are still life paintings and other works with tranquil moods. Human figures are rarely seen in the paintings, and if seen, they are in vague forms, Honaronline reported.
The works are diverse in terms of style, technique, subject, size and material. “To produce repetitive content with set techniques indicates the domination of market demands on a creator’s mind. This is different from producing works of art that are rooted in the constantly evolving feelings and emotions of a human,” Shahdadi said.
The present collection is handpicked by curator and visual art expert Masoud Nader. There are a total of 21 paintings in the collection. The exhibit has also four paintings by celebrated classical musician, composer, researcher and painter Sima Bina, 73.
Shahdadi, 75, has been working on visual art (painting and sculpture) as well as architecture, both in theory and practice, for over half a century. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, initially majoring in painting, and then architectural engineering, from which he graduated in 1972. Since then, Shahdadi has contributed to Iranian contemporary art by participating in more than 40 group and solo exhibitions in and outside the country.
His works have been presented in Christie’s Dubai Auction and Tehran Auction. In addition to private collections, his works are currently treasured in the Academy of Arts Collection, Tehran Municipality Museum of Art, Isfahan Museum of Arts, and Dubai Higher Colleges of Technology.
Still Nature will run till March 16 at the venue located at No. 14, Khark Street, Enqelab Avenue.
