Statuesque Paintings on Display

Painter Siavash Talaei is holding an exhibition of his statuesque paintings in O Gallery in Tehran. On display are nine artworks created using acrylic on primed canvas that helps hide the brushstrokes. The use of muted palette also helps the depicted figures look as if they have been carved from stone.  “Many mistake my works for statues,” Honaronline reported Talaei as saying.  The works depict fictional figures. The details used in each of the paintings, like pieces of clothing, hair and eyes, are inspired from multiple art-historical images from across the globe.  Talaei, 38, currently lives in Iran, moved to Italy after getting his bachelor’s degree to pursue a Master’s course in new expressive languages in contemporary art at Accademia di Belle Arti, Florence. The venue located at No. 18, Shahi (Khedri) St., on Sanaei St. is scheduled to host the works through March 14.
