Exhibition of Artworks Against IS

A young artist, Anima Ehtiat, will curate the ‘Art Against IS’ exhibition to condemn the violent nature and massacres by Islamic State militants.

The idea was floated by Ehtiat to the Rainik Art Group. The selected subjects for artworks include ‘IS and media’, IS and women’, inimical literature and destruction and sale of cultural heritage in Syria and Iraq, Honaronline reported.

The IS is an extremist militant group that has been slaughtering innocent people mostly in Syria and Iraq over the past two years.

The exhibition will be in two parts. The first curated by Ehtiat is slated for October 2-11 and will see the participation of Houshyar Ansari-far, contemporary Persian poet and author, Mehdi Naderi, filmmaker, director and film producer, Alireza Amirhajebi, landscape and conceptual artist and translator, Hooman Davoodi, theatre director and performer and performing artists Niloofar Darbandi, Sina Karimi, Samira Najafi and Fatima Taheri.

Shuka Hosseini will curate the second part (October 12-14), which will  focus on ‘poetry-performance’ by well-known poets Baktash Abtin, Hossein Makizadeh, Farshad Sonbol-del, Shahriar Khosravi, Shahin Shirzadi, and Mohammad Azarm.

Additionally, a landscape art exhibition will be curated by Atefeh Khas and each level will depict various subjects under IS history. “Artists are free to choose their style, as long it is under the main theme of the exhibition,” Ehtiat said.

A journal with the same title will also be published and the publication of an art book under the same theme is on the agenda.

The movement “Art against IS’ will be introduced at the international level by Naderi, director of the film ‘Farewell Baghdad,’ to prepare the ground for greater public movement against terrorism.

The exhibition will open on October 2 at Arteh Art Gallery, No. 3, Second Alley, Golestan St., S. Shiraz Ave., Mollasadra Ave., Vanak Sq., Tehran.
