Symphony Orchestra’s Tribute to Takhti

Tehran Symphony Orchestra staged a performance on the closing day of the 36th annual Takhti Cup at the 12,000-capacity Azadi Sports Complex on January 15.

The performance began with Iran’s national anthem and honoring wrestling champions, Honaronline reported.

The closing ceremony ended with a repertoire titled ‘Takhti’ by Iranian musician Pouria Khadem with four movements, (self-contained part of a musical composition or musical form).

Conducted by Bardia Kiaras, the symphony was enlivened with the presence of veteran vocalist Salar Aqili.

Khadem said it was his strong desire and love to compose a piece dedicated to the renowned Iranian Olympic gold-medalist wrestler, Gholamreza Takhti (1930-1968). “I’m glad to perform the repertoire for the enthusiast audience,” he said prior to the recital.

The International Senior Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Pahlavani Wrestling Tournament (Takhti Cup) was attended by 107 wrestlers from 13 countries where Iranian freestylers won the top titles by securing 80 and 90 points in freestyle and Greco-Roman, respectively.

Pahlavani wrestling saw 30 competitors from 12 countries and Iranian wrestlers Hamid Elahian and Ahmad Mirzapour, grabbed the top places.
