Iran cinema won three awards at the 14th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) in India which ended on January 21.
Of the six Iranian productions, one short and one feature film garnered three prizes competing with over a hundred international and home productions, Mehr News Agency reported.
‘Immortal’ directed by Hadi Mohaqeq won the best international film award in the World Cinema section. For his brilliant performance, actor Yadolah Shadmani received the special jury award of the section as well.
Produced by Reza Mohaqeq and Majid Barzegar, the feature film is about Ayaz, a lonely 70-year-old man, who detests life and is constantly in search of ways to end his life.
In the ‘Volkswagen International Student Live Action Competition’ section, the short film ‘Elegy’, written and directed by Yousef Kargar, won the best audiography award. In the Indian Bollywood film industry, audiography is defined as audio engineering by the sound department of a film which includes sound recording, editing, mixing and sound design.
Produced by the Urumia (capital of West Azarbaijan Province in northwest Iran) office of Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the 29-minute film narrates the story of an old man who has been waiting for the return of his missing son for 25 years.
Both films have attended several international festivals and collected awards in the past two years. ‘Immortal’ has also been selected in the Art and Experience section of the 34th Fajr Film Festival, February 1-11 in Tehran.
