The Iranian short film ‘Unfortunately’ by Shahrokh Dolkou has been accepted in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
Since the competition section of Cannes Short Film Festival only accepts films not longer than 15 minutes, the longer productions can be submitted to the non-competitive Short Film Corner; thus, Dolkou’s movie, 26 minutes long, will feature in this section.
The section is a useful rendezvous for filmmakers. Since 2004, short film producers and directors have chosen the section to present their films, to meet up and take decisive steps for their future careers.
‘Unfortunately’ is the first Iranian film that has been accepted for this section at this year’s festival, Mehr News Agency reported.
Based on a script by Dolkou and Mohammad Toloui, the film features known actors Atila Pesyani and Elham Korda.
The movie is about a man in a cafe who talks to a woman about the problems with his wife.
Cannes Film festival 2016 will be held May 11 to 22 in the French resort town of Cannes.
The film has also been accepted in the Asian New Force category of the 21st Incubator for Film and Visual media in Asia (IFVA) slated for late February and early March in Hong Kong.
A total of 10 Asian new directors tell stories with their distinct point of view. Besides Dolkou’s film, short productions from Malaysia, China, India, Iraq, Taiwan and Turkey will be screened and followed by a discussion session in the event.
Born in southwestern city of Ahvaz, Dolkou, 51, is a filmmaker and a movie critic and researcher. His reviews and articles on films and Iran cinema have been published in various magazines for the past 30 years. He has made five movies so far.
