Two Iran Films in Swiss Festival

Two Iranian movies will compete in the 2016 Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) slated for March 11-19, in Switzerland.

The feature film ‘Hair’ directed by Mahmoud Ghaffariis the only participant from Iran in the International Competition of Long Films while the ‘The Gambler’ by Karim Lakzadeh will vie in the Short Films category, Mehr News Agency reported.

Besides ‘Hair’, 12 other films from countries including Switzerland, Ukraine, Indonesia, Mexico and South Korea will vie for the festival’s Grand Prize.

The movie narrates the story of three young Iranian women, all deaf-mute karate champions, who are invited to compete in the World Championships in Germany.

Lakzadehhas previously won the festival’s Special Jury Award for the short film ‘Jila’.

‘The Gambler’ will have its first international screening at the 30th edition of the festival where it will compete with 15 other short films.

Produced by Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the film is set in a misty village on the top of a mountain where two gamblers kidnap an old man in his own cottage to lay their hands on the money that is supposed to be there.

An annual event in Fribourg, the Swiss festival is focused on selected cultural films from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
