The Iranian film ‘Today’ received three awards at the International Festival of Cinema of the Author.
As the event celebrated its 20th edition in Rabat, capital of Morocco, ‘Today’ won the Best Feature Film Award, Popular Award, and the Best Actor Award for Iranian actor Parviz Parastui, ISNA reported.
‘Manuscripts Don’t Burn’ by Mohammad Rasoulof was also shown at the festival.
A total of 13 films from Iran, France, Belgium, Germany, Iraq, Turkey, Spain, Argentina, Canada, Taiwan and Mexico competed in this year’s edition.
Three Showings
Representing Iran in the 2015 Academy Awards, ‘Today’ has also entered the final lineup of the Asian Images section of the 25th Stockholm International Film Festival (SIFF), November 5-16. The movie is set to have three showings during the festival. This section presents a panorama from one of the most creative and interesting filmmaking areas in the world.
‘Today’ is an emotional character drama about the “collision of two strangers” in contemporary Tehran. After an aging taxi driver drives a distraught young pregnant woman to the hospital, the two forge a profound connection during the course of a night. Acclaimed Iranian actor Parastui brings a dignified stoicism to his portrayal of the taxi driver, a perfect foil to the graceful vulnerability of newcomer Soheila Golestani as the young woman.
