An adapted version of ‘Odyssey’ directed by Arash Dadgar, is on stage at Tehran’s Hafez Hall from April 4.
Inspired by the ancient Greek author Homer’s epic poem Odyssey, the dramaturgy is by Amin Tabatabaei and Mehdi Tajeddin, Mehr News Agency reported.
The original work is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is, in part, a sequel to the ‘Iliad’, the other work ascribed to Homer.
The poem mainly focuses on the Greek hero Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Roman myths) and his journey home after the fall of Troy (a city situated in what is known from Classical sources as Asia Minor, now northwest Anatolia in modern Turkey).
It takes Odysseus ten years to reach Ithaca (a Greek island located in the Ionian Sea) after the ten-year Trojan War. In his absence, it is assumed he has died, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus must deal with a group of unruly suitors, the Proci, who compete for Penelope’s hand in marriage.
Dadgar, along with Kambiz Amini, Negar Abedi, Hesam Manzour, Amin Tabatabaei, Ammar Ashouri, Siavash Dadgar, Amir Rajabi, Mehrab Rostami and Reza Morshed are in the cast.
A production of ‘Quantum’ theater group, the play was earlier staged at the 34th Fajr International Theater Festival held from January 5 to February 1. The 100-minutes show will run through May 6 at the venue located on Ostad Shahriar St., Hafez Avenue.
