Farhadi’s ‘About Elly’ for US Screening

Cinema Guild has acquired the US distribution rights for Asghar Farhadi’s ‘About Elly’ - five years after it won the Silver Bear award for its Iranian director at the Berlin Film Festival.

The mystery also won the Best Film award at Tribeca in 2009 and was Iran’s official entry for the Academy Awards, though it did not find a place among the final five films. Yet it has never been released in the US, Honaronline reported.

Farhadi won the Foreign Language Oscar for his 2011 ‘A Separation’. ‘About Elly’ will open on April 8, 2015 at New York’s Film Forum, followed by a national release.

The story centers around a group of college pals (two married couples, a brother and sister, and three young kids) reuniting for a weekend outing by the Caspian Sea; along with them comes Elly, a kindergarten teacher of one of the children. Elly suddenly vanishes, setting in motion a series of deceptions and revelations.

Based in New York City, the Cinema Guild is a distributor of independent, foreign and documentary films.
