Saba Institute Hosting Int’l Cartoon Biennial

The 11th edition of Tehran International Cartoon Biennial was inaugurated on Tuesday at Saba Cultural Institute affiliated to the Iranian Academy of the Arts, with 730 works on show.

Secretary of the event, Masoud Shojaie Tabatabaei says the event includes 498 works created by Iranian cartoonists and the rest sent by cartoonists from 73 nations.

“Submitted pieces are sorted out into three categories, namely safety and security; caricatures of well-known figures like athletes, politicians, actors and actresses; and one subject-free section,” ISNA quoted Tabatabaei as saying.  In the final days of the event the biennial will be hosting 12 foreign cartoonists who will hold workshops.

The biennial is organized jointly by the Visual Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Institute for Promotion of Contemporary Visual Art affiliated to Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMoCA).

Saba Cultural Institute, the event venue, is located on the southwestern corner of Valiasr-Taleqani intersection. The closing ceremony of the biennial will be held on December 15 at TMoCA.
