Fartousi Film at Cinequest Festival

Feature film ‘Mother, I’m Joseph’ directed by Mohammadreza Fartousi is to be screened at the global vision section of Cinequest Film Festival, in San Jose, California, February 21- March 11.

Fartousi’s directorial debut, made in Arabic language, is a joint production of Iran, Iraq and Kuwait, Honaronline wrote.

It is a story about Joseph, an Iraqi soldier during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war, who refuses to fight.

“Imagine being forced to fight in a war you do not believe in nor want any part in. To what lengths would you go to escape? Based on true events, Joseph decides to hide to avoid fighting in the Iraq and Iran war. In fear of being punished, Joseph does not leave his hideout even when the war is over, and stays there for 21 years.  The daily struggle his mother endures to keep the secret plus the mental torture Joseph suffers while being tucked away and forgotten makes for one intense roller coaster of a film. Is such a life really worth living?” the event’s website wrote about the film.

The movie, which had its global premiere last December at the 6th Delhi International Film Festival, has Zahra Alrabiei, Abbas Ghazali, Hamideh Mousavi, Ahmad Heidari and Hamid Hamidi in the cast.

Cinequest is an annual independent film festival showcasing premier films in an effort to help improve international connectivity between creators, innovators and audiences.
