The works of three renowned veteran artists will be exhibited at the DD Museum Gallery in Izadshahr, Mazandaran Province.
Calligraphic painter Mahmoud Zenderoudi, 75; painter and sketch artist Bahram Dabiri, 67; and painter, graphic artist and calligrapher Eynoddin Sadeqzadeh, 52, will present their works at the gallery located at DD Art & Culture Center in the Caspian city of Izadshahr located between the two larger cities of Noor and Mahmoudabad. The trio exhibit opens Thursday and will run through April 20, ISNA reported.
Dabiri contributes 12 collage arts to the project while Zenderoudi presents 12 amulet designs that are intricate calligraphic paintings fashioned after the talismanic formulas written to ward off evil and bad luck. There are also 10 paintings and calligraphies by Sadeqzadeh.
Some of Dabiri's featured works are inspired by the traditional style of Persian miniature. "This is not a pre-planned exhibit. I present 12 collage works made with scraps of notes, photos and poetry. They are based on the arrangements and compositions prevalent in miniature painting. This is what I've been working on in the past few years," he said.
Not all Zenderoudi's works at the exhibit are his recent creations. The France-based artist's work harks back to old Iranian beliefs whereby kings and warriors donned clothes and armors containing writings, talismans and symbols for protection from harm and danger.
His style and techniques are analogous to Saqqakhaneh School of Art, a neo-traditional style of art that derives inspiration from Iranian folk art and culture but take them beyond their original context, producing a style of intermediary art mixing western and Persian artistic conventions.
Sadeqzadeh's works are all new.
"Five of them are picked out of 'Ecstasies' series, which are acrylic on cardboard. The other five are from among my large canvas works, never put on public display so far," he said. Managed by art collector and curator Ali Tavassoli, DD Art & Culture Center opened in spring 2016. Its museum gallery houses a total of 1,800 works by contemporary artists.
