Farda Art Gallery in Tehran is displaying a selection of paintings by renowned self-taught painter Mokarrameh Qanbari (1928-2005) and her son Ali Bolboli.
On display are 20 paintings by Qanbari and 20 by Bolboli. The exhibit opened April 6 and will run through April 19, Mehr News Agency reported.
Qanbari’s paintings at the exhibit have never been put on public display before and show how her works evolved over time.
A number of Qanbari’s double-sided paintings are also on show. They are hung in a series of frames allowing views of both sides.
Born in Darikhaneh village in the northern Mazandaran Province, Mokarrameh began painting at the age of 63 in 1991, and within a few years her artworks were noticed by painters in and outside Iran.
She died at the age of 77 and was buried in the courtyard of her house. After her death, her house was registered as a museum by the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization to preserve her artworks.
Mokarrameh never received any formal training in painting. She used bright, original colors inspired by the beautiful natural surroundings of her neighborhood as well as her memories and dreams in her artworks.
Bolboli follows in his mother’s footsteps in the post-modern style of his paintings. He is a musician, vocalist and orchestra conductor as well. He organized the exhibit for better appreciation of her mother’s skills.
Farda Art Gallery is located at No 2, A’rabi 6 Alley, Hosseini Street, Karim Khan Avenue.
