2 Iran Hopefuls in Beijing Film Festival

The 8th Beijing International Film Festival opened on Sunday at Beijing International Hotel Convention Center and will run till April 20. Iranian films ‘Searing Summer’ and ‘Untaken Paths’, in the competition section, have been nominated for top prize.

In this section the films will vie for the Tiantan Award with two films from China and 11 from Canada, Romania and South Africa among others, ISNA reported.

Ebrahim Irajzad’s debut film ‘Searing Summer’ is about a woman who wants a divorce but knows she will not be able to get custody of her six-year-old daughter if she separates. So, unbeknown to her husband, she takes her daughter and moves to an unknown location in Tehran.

Parinaz Izadyar, Saber Abar and Ali Mosaffa are in the cast.

‘Untaken Paths’ is directed by Tahmineh Milani, one of the prominent woman directors. In this film she delivers her view of the society by portraying a young girl who has an affair with a boy. However, when her strictly traditional family learns about it she has no choice but to marry him.

The cast includes Milad Keymaram, Mahour Alvand, Jamshid Hashempour and Elsa Firouz-Azar.

Since its inception in 2011, the festival has been an exchange platform for domestic and foreign films.
