Rooberoo Mansion in Tehran is to host an international theater residency project on May 8-11.
Artists from Lebanon, Germany, Belgium, Afghanistan and Turkey will attend the event and collaborate with four participants from Iran, Mehr News Agency reported.
Titled “Theatricultural Exchange Program”, the event has been jointly organized by Bohemi Theater Group and Rooberoo Mansion for the second time.
“Participants are specialized in acting, directing and puppetry. They will develop theatrical ideas and discuss various methods of producing a play,” Fariborz Karimi, artistic director of the program, said.
The artists will rehearse on common intercultural ideas, hold solo performances, communicate with Iranian actors and directors, and watch and review each other’s works.
In recent years, Iranian theater companies have created joint performances and plays with foreign groups.
‘Antigone’ (2012), directed by Homayun Ghanizade, forged a joint collaboration between Estonian actors and an Iranian troupe.
In 2016, Iranian-European Residency in The Hague, the Netherlands, arranged a workshop where performers from Iran and Europe joined Iranian director Arvand Dashtaray, Dutch dramaturge Cecile Brommer and Iranian playwright Naghmeh Samini as part of a theatrical research program first implemented in Iran titled “Reconsider Your Image of Me”.
The program was aimed at changing the images of cultural misunderstandings and prejudices through theater.
“Border” (2016) was a joint production between Iranian and German theater companies and “1+1” (2016), an Italian-Iranian collaboration, was performed at the International Children & Youth Theater Festival in Hamedan. Recently in April, Azeri directors and actors attended a meeting on prospects of Iran-Azerbaijan cooperation in the fields of cinema and theater in Tehran.
The upcoming international theater residency project in Tehran is an opportunity for young theater artists to become familiar with other performers from across the world. The event will be run in English.
Rooberoo Mansion is located at No. 7, Kianpour Dead-End, northeast of Valiasr Junction on Enqelab Avenue.
