Talk on Art & Identity

Concurrent with ‘Empire of Roses,’ an exhibit of Qajar art at the museum of Louvre-Lens in northern France, a meeting will be held at Sa’dabad Cultural Complex in northern Tehran.

Organized by the Research Department of the cultural complex, the meeting is slated for Thursday at 3 pm. Fine Art Museum of the complex will host the event, according to Tandismag.com

Two art scholars will speak. Ceramist, calligrapher, art historian, lecturer and author Kianoosh Motaqedi will present a review of the Qajar art exhibit ongoing in the city of Lens. The event is the first retrospective art exhibit in Europe dedicated to art of the Qajar era (1786-1925). ‘Empire of Roses: Masterpieces of 19th Century Art’ will run through July 23.

The other lecture will be delivered by painter and art researcher Javad Ali-Mohammadi Ardakani. His is a review on ‘Artistic Developments in Early Qajar Era; Restoring an Iranian Identity.’ He will talk about the significance of Qajar art which opened up to modern times while at the same time seeking to preserve its identity.

The meeting is open to the public. Sa’dabad Cultural Complex is at the end Taheri Street, Zafaranieh Avenue off Valiasr Street.
