Niavaran Palace Complex is showing rare paintings by the celebrated contemporary artist Abdolreza Daryabeigi at its Jahan Nama Museum until mid June.
Five oil paintings by the modernist painter, which have been preserved among the palace’s rare and exquisite items, are on display, ISNA reported on its Persian website.
Daryabeigi is well known in Iran’s conceptual art community. His paintings, largely about abstract and infinite landscapes, are in pale colors. His artworks were recently put up for sale at an auction in Tehran.
He was part of an innovative generation of modern art movement in Iran during the 1950’s and 1960’s, which was pioneered by painter Marcos Grigorian and carried forward by master artists including calligrapher and painter Hossein Zenderoudi, neo-traditional sculptor Parviz Tanavoli and avant-garde painter Zhazeh Tabatabai.
Born in Rasht, Daryabeigi (1930-2012) studied world history and geography at Tehran University. Later he learnt the composition and techniques of art at the studios of Marcos Grigorian and Ali Azargin. He first exhibited his work in the 1960’s and won honors at the Human Rights Fair in 1968 organized by UNESCO. In 1962, Daryabeigi opened his own gallery Mess (copper in Persian) in Tehran and in 1986 opened another gallery in Nogent-sur-Marne, France, soon after moving there.
Niavaran Palace Complex is located at Shahid Bahonar Sq.
