$1.6b Allotted to Revamp Iran Road Transport Fleet

As part of a plan to renovate the ageing commercial transportation fleet, a sum of €1.4 billion ($1.6 billion) has so far been allocated to replace 35,000 dilapidated vehicles with new ones. According to the deputy industries minister, the plan which is financed by the National Development Fund and the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran, is to phase out and renew some 202,500 old commercial vehicles, including buses, minibuses, trucks, IRNA reported. "The old vehicles will be replaced with new and standard domestically-made fleet," Mansour Moazemi said. The renovation project, which was launched in February, is aimed to achieve its target in a three year time frame. The official hoped some 60,000 vehicles will be replaced by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2019). The plan will not only noticeably help decrease fuel consumption, but will also contribute to curbing some environmental issues and oil the wheels of the domestic industry.
