Three Iranian chess players won in the first round of the World Junior Chess Championship.
Sara Sadat Khadem-al-Sharieh, Mohaddeseh Alijanzadeh and Aryan Gholami notched up wins over their opponents in the first round of the tournaments, Mehr News Agency reported.
The 2017 World Junior Chess Championship (November 12-26) is underway in Tarvisio, Italy. The event takes place as per the Swiss-system tournament through 11 rounds.
Swiss-system tournament is a non-eliminating tournament format which features a set number of rounds of competition. In a Swiss tournament, competitors meet one-to-one in each round and are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each competitor plays opponents with a similar running score, but not the same opponent more than once. The winner is the competitor with the highest aggregate points earned in all rounds.
