Iran’s women basketball team defeated Laos’s national team as the third consecutive win in the series of the Central and East Asia qualifying games for Asian Para Games.
The team thrashed Laos 53-14 to continue its winning streak at the tournament. On Tuesday, Iranian wheelchair basketball players hammered India 54-4, according to the website of the games, Iwbf.org.
Also on Monday, Iran defeated Thai rivals 45-30 in their opener game at the tournament. Iran will face Cambodia and Afghanistan on Thursday and Friday respectively.
Eight men’s teams and six women’s teams are competing for their place at the Asian Para Games in the Central and East Asia qualifying tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 4-10.
Four men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams from the Central and East Asia region will qualify for the Asian Para Games in October.
The eight men’s teams will compete in two split pools. Pool A will consist of China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia, while host Thailand will play Chinese Taipei, Afghanistan and India in Pool B.
The pool standing will determine the crossovers for the quarterfinals, before the semifinals and rankings games.
In the women’s competition, Iran, Afghanistan, Cambodia, India, Laos and Thailand will play in a round robin—each team playing all others once—followed by ranking games to decide the final placing.
Automatic qualification for the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games, which takes place in the city of Jakarta Indonesia from 6–13 October, has been given to men’s teams Korea, Japan, Iran and Indonesia, and women’s teams of China and Japan.
